dovetail

dovetail is an experimental microkernel written in C and Assembly. i'm writing this project as a hands-on way to learn about microkernels, their design, and their practicality. dovetail is nowhere near finished, so it is currently not fully-featured, nor should it be used for production.

what we have so far?

  • trampoline to 64-bit long mode
  • driver for COM1 serial output
  • printf support (printk)

build it yourself!

to build (and run) dovetail, you'll need:

  • a C compiler (like gcc or clang)
  • GNU Make (make)
  • grub-mkrescue (or grub2-mkrescue)
  • xorriso
  • QEMU

after cloning the repository, simply run:

make && make iso

the makefile also provides a target to run dovetail:

make run
